Can Music Balance Your Mind? (Or UnBalance It?) #musictherapy

photo_58114_20110920 Your brain waves operate in frequencies, measured in Hz, the same as sound waves. If you have ever been to a big concert, and stood next to the speakers, you know how those sound waves can penetrate your body… in fact, the LRAD corporation has developed “weaponized” sound, for the government to use, in the form of the LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device. “LRAD systems are used by maritime, law enforcement, military and commercial security companies to send instructions and warnings over distances, and to force compliance. LRAD is also used to deter wildlife from airport runways, wind and solar farms, nuclear power facilities, mining and agricultural operations and other industrial facilities.” (Wikipedia)

In the entertainment industry, various forms of music are used to influence the population, everything from seemingly mindless “pop” music, to the aggressively hard core…. although you may not realize it, this very professionally produced music does have an effect on your emotions and mind, and can begin to influence the way you think and feel, in a way that “entities”, including corporate and government, had planned all along(and not necessarily in your best interest).

While there are forces in this world who wish to “weaponize” sound, by creating devices to inflict pain and compliance with authority, or “music” to influence the way you think or feel, sound can equally be used, by individuals who wish to find mental, emotional and spiritual freedom.

Traditional sound healing practices include shamanic drumming, chanted mantras and prayers, church and temple bells, singing bowls, and song. In modern times, sound healing techniques have been developed, using specific frequencies and techniques of delivery, that can directly influence your brainwaves; you can choose how you want to feel, and how you want to think.

Isochronic Tones and MonoAural Beats use steady, regular pulses of sound to influence the brain and body; these do not need headphones, and are not only percieved by the brain, but also felt by the body (like the beat of a drum).

Binaural Beats use headphones to deliver two slightly different tones to the brain; you may realize, there are two different hemispheres of the brain, right and left, and that the right hemisphere is the “creative” side, and the left hemisphere is the “logical” side. Using specific sound frequencies can be quite effective, for “balancing” these two brain hemispheres.

According to traditional Hindu and Buddhist mantras, specific sounds are related to different spiritual states (like the tone of OM) and the Solfeggio frequencies, used in the medieval Gregorian chants, also are reported to produce profound meditative, and balanced, states of mind. When combined with scientific sound healing techniques, like isochronic tones and binaural beats, the effects can be quite profound.

So how can you take control, and use these new sound healing techniques? There are many independantly produced CDs and MP3s readily available. There are also exotic mind machines that can be programmed by the user with specific frequencies of sound and light, for a highly individualized experience.

Of course, you can go “low tech”, and simply choose to play a musical instrument, or sing, or chant. This is the most primal and natural way for a human being to infouence the “energy” of their environment, and also, to reconnect with the “positive energy” of the Universe, or Higher Consciousness.
